“All Life is Yajnya”. Yajnya means sacrifice. Agni Hotra is the foundational Vedic Yajnya (Fire sacrifice).
innerYajnya is a self-regulating discipline (sadhana : spiritual practices in Yoga) in order to burn karma – such is the meaning of tapasya, process of burning off the dross through sadhana. Agni Hotra suppors this.
So, like offering Water to a Holy River, offering Fire to the Sun is a high practice of Gratitude. Does the Sun need its Light back? of course not. As spiritual seekers we need to learn Gratitude – to give back. You may have experience knowing that words are not always enough to say ‘thank you’ or ‘sorry’. Action is required if Karma is to be effectively burned. When we offer Agni Hotra, we are not cooking or staying warm. Its only purpose is Gratuity to the Sun. Agnihotra exemplifies ritualizing, making that process of sacrifice sacred and meaningful. It also teaches us that when you burn something of lower nature, you may gain something of a higher nature.
In Vedic Culture there are the Pancha Maha Yajnya-s. 5 inner ways or ways of Life to practice Yajnya. There is also the 5 Fold Path, insightfully crafted by Paramashree Satguru Gajanan Maharaj along the lines of Pancha Maha Yajnya-s so as to be accessible to the Non-Hindu as well. Leaving only one outer ritual to navigate, and that is Agni Hotra. For its numerous Scientifically realized attributes in supporting a healthy planet and its inhabitants, Agnihotra is more than just a puja/ritual. It is a service to the entire Biosphere.
Humans benefit from meaningful as well as practical rituals in our lives. Rituals self-regulate us by self-discipline. They ground us. Agni Hotra also realizes a human potential for Gratitude, Grace, Compassion & Introspection. It is the perfect Dharana for Samyama on Fire, of which there are 7 Siddhi-s associated. The practice itself re-sets our Circadian Rhythms & it bridges the inter-dimensional planes via the Pancha-Mahabhuta-s (5 greater elemental essences : Tattvas). The practicals of Agni Hotra are especially relevent today. Anti-pathogenic, Auto-immune turbo-boosting, meditative, develops insight, reverses harm done by pollutants, purifies the atmosphere & is nutritious when introduced into water & soil.
Maybe its not the Apocalypse of St John, or even the Zombie Apocalypse. But, if there isn’t an inner-Revelation – an innerElevation – an innerEvolution – uncovering the veils of this illusory world right now, then you aren’t paying attention. it’s an inner-Mahakranti – aka: inner-Pralaya – a Cosmic Re-set. It teaches us that the world (our lives) is Phuro – transient/ temporal in nature.
Coming to grips with this may be traumatic. It depends on how attached you are to the outer form. The journey is all about that. It is the Truth of Life. It is the GIFT, the advanced course of Grace. When we have trauma, we have opportunity for the blessing of insight that might otherwise take years or lifetimes of Sadhana, especially Svadhyaya. If we have ancestral trauma, then we also have Inherent Wisdom. Your ancestors may have done alot of this work for you, and now is the time to unveil it. BLM a good example of a collective ancestral trauma that is blessing the Black Community right now, as this young black generation begins to unravel the wisdom of their ancestors embedded in their DNA. The reward of pain is uncovering bits of that wisdom, out of the broken-ness.
Remember Akhilandeshwari Goddess, the one who is never not broken. She is getting busy right now. Is there anyone who has escaped suffering? Whether in this life, past lives or in our ancestral lineage? That’s the nature of Life. We are born to Rust. Uncle Neil (Young) once said: “its better to burn-out than it is to Rust”.

VEDIC SCIENCE: Agnihotra is an Ayurvedic Medicinal Science. It finds earliest mention in the Atharva Veda (1000 BC), v 97:1 although pouring ghee into the ritual fire was known as early as in the Ṛgveda (c. 5000 BC). There is a simplified version of the Agnihotra in the Grihyasutras and in later post-Vedic texts.

AgniHotra is tuned to the circadian rhythm of sunrise and sunset. And so it tunes you as you practice it over time.

Following excerpts from Phyr-O-Sutras : Praying with Fire e-book – by Amma Niradhara. Fire is recognized as a manifestation of Shiva (Manifested Energy) as it emerges from Shakti (Pure Energy). This Energy, when working together, has the ability to create or destroy/ transform everything known to us humans. The integral Shiva/ Shakti Energy of Vedic Arts and Science is an archetype common in all known religious & spiritual teachings and present in all beings. It is known in the secular world as ‘duality’ or ‘polarity’.
We now know now that there is only Energy and the illusion it creates is Matter. Adamantine particles, sub-atomic matter, were already known to Rishi-s who composed the Vedas. “Vajradhatu” is a Sanskrit word which means “adamantine sphere” or sub-atomic particle. This is the InnerYajnya. Pure Creative Energy. that is found inside of you. Without it, the outer manifestation of Yajnya is superficial in providing healing transformation. Fire can be for both constructive and destructive means. This is a fact of our polarized material world. Divine Messengers come to us from time to time, it is told they come “at the end of an age”. All Divine Messengers come to do the work of the Omniscient Divine Love Energy, commonly called God. HinduisM says the next incarnation of this Divine Love will be the Kalki Avatar, the 10th an final incarnation of Vishnu. This Avatar will rescue the world from its toxicity.
Agnihotra was resuscitated from the Vedas in 1944 by Parama Sadguru Shree Gajanan Maharaj of Akkalkot, Maharasthra, India. – he promoted the integration of this practice to counter-act the Industrial Era, post-WW2, and he made it accessible for anyone to practice, regardless of gender, faith, creed, religion or lack of these. For this reason his followers believe he is the Kalki Avatar. Parama Shree never left India, he instructed Shree Vasant Paranjape to travel the world teaching Agnihotra as the antidote to the increasing global atmospheric issues.
It was during his first days in New York that Shree Vasant was befriended by Shri Brahmananda, Guruji of Ananda Ashram, who eased the adjustment to being in the USA. Shree left a footprint at Ananda Ashram which Niradhara later followed and practiced Ananda’s Homa with Ma Bhaskarananda, Bharati Devi, Karuna Ma and Radha Ma. This led her to Shree’s original Agnihotra and seek to learn more. Eventually she came to live with Shree & his family at his Goshala, to practice, study and serve at his feet. It is with reverence to these Saintly Masters of Fire that we dedicate and carry on the teaching.
